Simple and sophisticated methods for determining pesticide residues on food for human consumption are described in this resource for students, researchers, consultants, and other professionals in environmental science, chemistry, biology, and ecology, as well as those in pesticide production and use. The fist group of chapters reviews methods and problems in analyzing pesticide residues, and looks at the scope and limitations of neem and other natural botanicals for plant protection. The next section describes in detail such methods as supercritical fluid chromatography, disposable electrochemical biosensors for environmental analysis, planar chromatography, pressurized liquid extraction, and chemiluminescence detection. A chapter is devoted to simple and affordable methods of spectrophotometric, thin-layer chromatographic, and volumetric determination of pesticide residues. Part III, on pesticides and the environment, covers medicinal plants and pesticide residues, sample preparation and quantification, and analysis of pesticide residues in milk, eggs, and meat, fruits and vegetables, fish and wildlife, human blood and urine, animal feed, and soils. B&w images are included. Nollet teaches biochemistry, aquatic ecology, and ecotoxicology in the Department of Applied Engineering Science at University College Ghent.
