Halogen-free FR compounds for wire & cable.

New halogen-free flame-retardant compounds for telecommunications and general-purpose wire and cable boast a balance of properties and processability that challenge standard EVA-based compounds for FR jacketing and insulation. 1643 BK are the first of this new family of polyolefin compounds from Houston-based Dow Wire & Cable Compounds. Besides halogen halogen (hăl`əjĕn) [Gr.,=salt-bearing], any of the chemically active elements found in Group 17 of the periodic table; the name applies especially to fluorine (symbol F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and iodine (I). , the products contain no lead, sulfur, or antimony antimony (ăn`tĭmō'nē) [Lat. antimoneum], semimetallic chemical element; symbol Sb [Lat. stibium,=a mark]; at. no. 51; at. wt. 121.75; m.p. 630.74°C;; b.p. 1,750°C;; sp. gr. (metallic form) 6. . Instead, they use metalhydrate flame retardants Flame retardants are materials that inhibit or resist the spread of fire. Naturally occurring substances such as asbestos as well as synthetic materials, usually halocarbons such as polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDEs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorendic acid .

Dow says only that these proprietary compounds are based on polyolefins produced with new Insite single-site catalyst and process technology. In addition to excellent ignition resistance, low smoke generation, and high abrasion abrasion /abra·sion/ (ah-bra´zhun)

resistance, these compounds boast mechanical properties that outperform traditional compounds for flame-retardant jacketing and insulation, riser cable, industrial cable, communication cable, and FTTX (Fiber To The X) Refers to all the "fiber-to-the-wherever" technologies. See FTTC and FTTP. See also FTX.  applications (see table).

These compounds also reportedly are easy to extrude extrude /ex·trude/ (ek-strldbomacd´)

2. in dentistry, to occupy a position occlusal to that normally occupied.
without special screws. Improved electrical performance and outstanding low-temperature performance are also claimed. Tel: (800) 441-4369 * PT Direct: 295YK
