Halle Berry's mother was a domestic abuse victim.

Washington, Nov 12 (ANI): Hollywood actress Halle Berry has revealed that her mother was a victim of domestic violence.

In an interview with NBC's Natalie Morales Natalie Leticia Morales (born June 6 1972 in Taiwan) became an official member of NBC News "The Today Show" in February 2006, after filling in since 2004. Morales co-anchors for the program and fills in regularly at the news desk.  for NBC Nightly News NBC Nightly News is the flagship evening news program for NBC News and broadcasts from the GE Building, Rockefeller Center in New York City. It has been known by this name since August 1, 1970.  with Brian Williams segment, the Oscar-winning actress spoke about her inspiration for getting involved with Jenesse Centre, an L.A.-based shelter that provides support for domestic violence victims and teaches them self-sufficiency.

"My mother was a battered woman and that was my childhood for a good chunk of it," Usmagazine quoted her as saying.

While talking about her visit to Jenesse Centre, the 43-year-old actress said, "I care, I really care about these women and children."

"Early on in my life, I made choices, and I chose men that were abusive because that was what I knew growing up," she said four years ago, when she was honoured by the Jenesse Centre for her humanitarian work.

Through therapy, the star has said she learned what to do if and when a relationship turned violent. (ANI)
