"At the same time, we wanted to do something to acknowledge our neighbors across the river," Barrett added. The company brought in one large American flag to display and gave away smaller flags to those in attendance, while a moment of silence honored the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Two 8-by-12-foot American flags were later added to a fence bordering Half Moon's amenities deck. Also, in consideration of any New Yorkers who were displaced by the tragic events, the property reserved a limited number of apartments for three-month leases.

Mayor Sacco referred, to the luxury apartment complex, which was developed on previously unused waterfront real estate and is already one-third rented, as "a phenomenal asset for North Bergen. Our fine community is pleased to welcome the many people, including young professionals, families, and empty-nesters, who are moving here," he said.

A public event capped off the property's grand opening activities. Many prospective tenants toured Half Moon's recently completed amenities and enjoyed its spectacular river and skyline views skyline view
