Software, Inc. announced today that it has ported its award-winning product, Instant ASP(TM) (iASP) to the IBM eServer zSeries architecture. iASP is a Java implementation of the industry-standard Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT MSFT Microsoft (stock symbol)

The ASP framework has become the de-facto Web-application development methodology of choice for Microsoft NT/IIS developers.  gives developers the ability to use standard front-end tools, components, programming/scripting languages, and databases to build Web-based applications quickly and easily. More than one million developers are now building ASP applications. However, the ASP framework has traditionally been limited to Microsoft Windows-based deployments.

Using iASP, developers can combine the ease of use and flexibility of the Active Server Page framework with the robustness and performance of the IBM zSeries mainframe. Businesses that have standardized with Linux for zSeries can eliminate their Windows-based IIS (Internet Information Services) Microsoft's Web server. IIS runs under the server versions of Windows, adding HTTP server capability to the Windows operating system.  Web servers thus saving thousands of dollars in maintenance and hardware costs. In addition, since iASP is written completely in Java, it can take full advantage of the world class IBM WebSphere Application Server This article or section needs sources or references that appear in reliable, third-party publications. Current major iASP customers include Agilent, Verizon, Intel, Oracle, Amerisource, and many others.

"Porting iASP to the Linux for zSeries environment will allow our customers to exploit all the intrinsic values of the IBM mainframe server environment thus permitting them to consolidate numerous Microsoft servers on a single piece of IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  hardware. The open source technology of Linux allows us to create cost-effective solutions that leverage existing IT investments." Joann Duguid, Director, Linux marketing IBM eServer zSeries noted, "The Halcyon iASP port to Linux is a further validation of how heterogeneous workloads can be consolidated to run on the zSeries mainframe server. As more and more traditional S/390 applications, such as iASP, support zSeries, we feel confident this environment is ready for our enterprise customers today."

"Instant ASP provides the critical piece required for consolidating multiple Windows servers into a z900 mainframe solution," Don Hsi, Halcyon's President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
