Hair donations make history.


When WLBT meteorologist Barbie Bassett challenged viewers to join her in donating eight inches of hair to make wigs for cancer-patients, Mississippi men, women, and children responded en mass.

 in Clinton, hair donors supplied nearly 900 ponytails to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Pantene in partnership with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), created Pantene Beautiful Lengths in July 2006. This first-of-its-kind charitable campaign encourages individuals to grow, cut, and donate their healthy hair to make free wigs for women who have  campaign. First Lady Marsha Barbour and Clinton Mayor Rosemary Aultman also attended the event to offer support.

), is a nationwide hair-cutting drive to make free wigs for women who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment. The drive has received nearly 12,500 hair donations since its July 2006 beginnings.

Hair donations for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign are made into high-quality wigs and distributed at no cost to cancer patients through the American Cancer Society's national network of wig banks, according to Emily DeLizza of DeVries Public Relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. "The event was incredible!" said DeLizza, who witnessed the hair donations in Clinton. "The generosity and kindness we saw from Mississippi were truly inspiring."

According to the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,

Between Mississippi's record-breaking hair donation event and a similar event in Cincinatti, Ohio, on the same day, Pantene Beautiful Lengths collected enough ponytails to create approximately 250 wigs for women battling cancer.
