Haights Cross Communications acquires CMEinfo.com & Scott Publishing.

Haights Cross Communications (HCC; White Plains, NY), an education and library publisher, has acquired CMEinfo.com (Cherry Hill, NJ), a publisher of multimedia continuing medical education (CEM) products and services. CMEinfo.com will become a part of HCC's Oakstone Medical Publishing (Birmingham, AL) unit. No terms of the deal were given.

CMEinfo.com partners with medical institutions, including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Harvard, UCLA, UC-San Francisco, and the University of Chicago, among others, to provide programs that help doctors prepare for Board certification and re-certification exams and master the latest clinical procedures. Courses are offered in video and audio formats. The company, established in 1989, also produces live courses for physicians through its National Center for Advanced Medical Education. The company currently offers over 45 courses containing nearly 2000 hours of CME programming across 22 medical and health care disciplines.

Oakstone Medical Publishing provides subscription summaries and critical reviews of medical journal articles, in audio and electronic formats, for more than 30 medical, dental and allied health specialities. Affiliations exist with medical institutions such as Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the American College of Physicians. HCC Chairman/CEO Peter Quandt said the acquired company "is well-regarded in its market segment and is an ideal complement to our Oakstone Medical Publishing business. We expect this acquisition to further drive Oakstone Medical's growth, profitability and leadership position."

Also, HCC has purchased Scott Publishing (Edmonds, WA), dba Personal Best Communications, Inc., a publisher of employee wellness newsletters, calendars, and web-based products. The acquired company's flagship product, 'Personal Best' newsletter, was established in 1982 and provides guidance and information on individual and family issues related to health, wellness, nutrition and safety. The company's customized products are distributed to over 2 million individuals in the U.S. and Canada, including employees and clients of corporations, managed care and insurance companies, government agencies, schools and health-related organizations. The company will become a part of Oakstone's Wellness Publishing unit.

Besides Oakstone, other HCC units include Audio Adventures (Prince Frederick, MD), Buckle Down Publishing (Iowa City, IA), Chelsea House Publishers (Langhorne, PA), Newbridge Educational Publishing (Northborough, MA), Options Publishing (Merrimack, NH), Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD), Sundance Publishing (Northborough, MA) and Triumph Learning (New York).
