HYBRID NETWORKS' WBR INTEGRATES CONEXANT'S INFOSURGE.

Hybrid Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: HYBR), a provider of MMDS fixed broadband wireless Internet-access systems, has integrated Conexant's (Nasdaq: CNXT) InfoSurge single-chip broadband modem integrated circuit (IC) into the Wireless Broadband Router (WBR) that is part of its two-way fixed broadband wireless system.

The Wireless Broadband Router converts data from personal computers to signals that are transmitted over radio frequencies, enabling two-way wireless high-speed Internet access. New modems using the InfoSurge broadband modem IC will offer non-line-of-sight capabilities and will reduce multipath interference, which will allow customers to reuse frequencies more effectively and to use smaller cells to increase service capacity.

"This is an important step for Hybrid in providing wireless technologies based on commercial chips," said Michael D. Greenbaum, president and CEO of Hybrid Networks. "Not only does Conexant's technology provide an important component to a non-line-of-sight product solution, it allows us to produce a very cost-effective product for the marketplace."

"Our highly integrated single-chip broadband modem device with its unique programmable MAC architecture will allow Hybrid to reduce the number of integrated circuits it currently uses in its Wireless Broadband Routers and enable it to easily incorporate its media access technology into a system solution," said Dan Marotta, vice president and general manager of Conexant's Digital Infotainment Division. "We look forward to working with Hybrid to develop wireless modem products integrating future versions of this chip."
