A hydrogenated carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HXNBR) is available for applications that demand the highest performance in extreme environments, according to the manufacturer. Therban XT (HXNBR) introduces a carboxylic acid group into HNBR polymer structure that is expected to further improve HNBR's superior mechanical strength, adhesion properties and abrasion resistance, according to the company. Therban compounds are said to exhibit unusually high tear strength at elevated temperatures when compared with regular HNBR and other synthetic elastomers, and have higher tensile strength and higher elongation at break at high temperature than either regular HNBR and XNBR based compounds, according to the company. In addition, the Therban XT is said to have excellent adhesion to nylon fabrics used in the belt industry over a broad range of temperatures, especially at high ranges, and is said to have better abrasion resistance than regular HNBR and XNBR. These characteristics are said to indicate that Therban XT (HXNBR) is an excellent material for applications such as oil well specialties, where a high modulus, high strength polymer is required.
