Therban XT (HXNBR hydrogenated carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) is said to offer improvements in mechanical and adhesion properties and abrasion resistance, as well as unusually high tear strength at high temperatures when compared with regular HNBR and other synthetic elastomers. The excellent abrasion resistance and the superior mechanical strength of Therban XT are said to make it highly desirable for oil well specialty applications, according to the manufacturer. Blending Therban XT with regular Therban is said to result in rubber compounds with improved wear resistance and aging properties for use in drill bits and packer applications. These materials are also said to be a good choice for automotive and industrial seals where heat/oil resistance and abrasion resistance are required. The high modulus and low strain and good elongation of Therban XT/Therban/ZDA blend are said to make it attractive in applications where high modulus and elastomer properties are required, as in roll covers and belts, according to the company.
