HURRICANE HARBOR SET FOR WET SEASON VALENCIA WATER PARK HOPES TO BUILD ON RECORD-SETTING SUMMER LAST YEAR.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Six Flags (NYSE: SIX) is the world's largest chain of amusement parks and theme parks and is headquartered in New York City. There are 20 such parks run by Six Flags.
 California's Hurricane Harbor when it opens its slides for the summer May 12.

The water park, featuring more than 22 slides and attractions, will be open weekends beginning that day, daily from May 26 to Sept. 3, then on weekends again through Sept. 30.

Hurricane Harbor hit record attendance last year, and officials expect more visitors this season, thanks to new attractions at adjacent Magic Mountain, said park spokeswoman Amy Means.

``Since we've become an entertainment complex, we've become a very popular destination for people all over Southern California,'' she said.

In the United States the name is applied chiefly to the black racer and to the black rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta), both partly arboreal in their habits.  Summit might be one of the most thrilling rides with its 75- foot-tall tower and five water slides, two of which are among the tallest in Southern California.

The sprawling 3.2-acre Lizard Lagoon has a tropical beach resort featuring adult and teen activities, including a 3 1/2-foot-deep recreational pool with basketball hoops, comfortable lounge chairs beneath bamboo shade structures, and swaying palm trees.

General admission is $21.99, and $14.99 for children under 48 inches tall and for seniors age 55 and older. Children ages 2 and under are admitted free. A Hurricane Harbor season pass costs $70.
