HUNTER GETS INTO THE ACT LINEBACKER SHINES AS NOTRE DAME WINS N.D. 17, CANYON 7.

Overshadowed on a star-studded football team loaded with big names, Hayden Hunter of Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks managed to steal a few scenes to make the marquee Friday in a 17-7 opening victory over visiting Canyon.

The senior linebacker intercepted two passes -- returning one 67 yards for a touchdown -- and recovered a fumble, all in the second half, to spark the Knights (1-0) against the defending Northern Division and CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  State Div. I champions.

"I thought it was a lot of fun even though 67 yards seems a lot farther when you do it in a game," Hunter said.

Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist, who's headed to the University of Notre Dame, and defensive end Wes Horton, who's going to USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. , had their moments.

Crist completed 13 of 26 passes for 176yards, and he rushed for 74yards on nine carries.

Horton had two sacks.

But this was Hunter's night.

Sean Gavin completed eight of his first 10 passes and finished 16of 27 for 231 yards -- but he was intercepted four times.

"Canyon has some good players," Rooney said.

Notre Dame's Thaddeus Brown rushed for 79 yards on 17 carries. His 13-yard touchdown run capped a three-play, 71-yard drive to break a scoreless tie.

Crist set up the touchdown by scrambling See scramble.  31 yards, then passing 27 yards to James Flynn.

Canyon went scoreless on its first three possessions before driving 80 yards on six plays, capped by Stephen Wirthlin's 36-yard touchdown reception.

Wirthlin added a 65-yard kick return on the final play of the first half.

Notre Dame's Jeff Dickmann caught nine passes for 85 yards. Canyon's top receivers were Wirthlin (five for 119 yards) and Mark Urbina (seven for 69).

Canyon's Jordan Ferguson rushed for 44 yards on 17 carries.
