HUMANA ANNOUNCES EARNINGS FORECAST
HUMANA ANNOUNCES EARNINGS FORECAST LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM)
said its earnings per share in the three months ending November 30, the fiscal first quarter, are likely to be about equal to the 48 cents earned in the comparable period a year ago.
William C. Ballard Jr., executive vice president and chief financial officer, said the company's same-hospital admissions were down about 1 percent for the two months ended October, while cost increases continue to outpace revenue growth. He said he believes these trends are national in scope. The most recent figures available from the American Hospital Association, the national hospital panel survey report for July, showed that in the three months ended July 31 same-hospital admissions were down 2.2 percent from the year-earlier level. The profitability of Humana's health benefit plan business continues to improve, helping to offset the softening of income of the hospitals. Humana owns and operates 80 hospitals and has 1.7 million members in its health plans. -0- 11/14/91 /CONTACT: Charles E. Teeple, 502-580-3613, or Tyree G.
