HULK SMASH, BUT LOE DOESN'T.

Byline: CHRIS COCOLES The Minors

When he steps on a mound that adds even more elevation, Kameron Loe Kameron David Loe (born September 10, 1981 in Simi Valley, California) is a Major League Baseball player for the Texas Rangers. At 6'7" tall, Loe is one of the tallest players in the game and also has a 7 foot boa constrictor named Angel which he keeps in the Rangers clubhouse.  resembles a giant. At 6-foot-8 with a wicked submarine delivery, the Texas Rangers' rising prospect looks the part of a nasty power pitcher In baseball, a power pitcher is a pitcher who relies on the velocity of his pitches, sometimes at the expense of accuracy. Power pitchers usually record a high number of strikeouts and statistics such as strikeouts per 9 innings pitched are common measures of power. .

But that's where the ``He looks like a young Randy Johnson'' stuff is a myth. Loe's early pro career, like his prep (Granada Hills High) and college (Cal State Northridge) days, has been defined by pinpoint control.

Spanning his 2002 junior season at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge , followed by a summer assignment in rookie ball and his ongoing 2003 performance with Single-A Clinton (Iowa), Loe has issued a measly measly

Maddux, baseball's poster boy for command, walked 45 in 199 innings last season.

``Kameron's command is kind of a natural gift he has,'' CSUN coach Steve Rousey said. ``He's always been a strike-thrower, and he's developed his stuff to the degree where he can produce outs within the strike zone. Some guys have to induce the hitters to swing at pitches out of the strike zone. But Kameron's got good-enough stuff, he can throw strikes and produce outs with swings on balls in the strike zone.''

Loe (3-1, 1.33 ERA, two saves) made the Midwest League All-Star team and has been equally effective starting and relieving for the LumberKings. In 81 innings, he's allowed just 56 hits with the aforementioned 15 walks. But he can throw with some velocity, striking out 82.

Loe, the Rangers' minor-league pitcher of the month The Pitcher of the Month award is a Major League Baseball award named by each league for each month of the regular season. The National League started recognizing the award in 1975. The American League followed in 1979.  in April, was named the most recent Midwest League Pitcher of the Week after tossing nine one-hit, shutout innings and earning a save.

He's had periodic rough outings; he allowed five runs (two earned) and committed two throwing errors against Quad City (Iowa) on June 19, but he bounced back in his next start to toss five no-hit innings against West Michigan.

``I had all my pitches working,'' he told the Clinton Herald after striking out a season-high seven in 91-degree weather with high humidity. ``I got loose real fast. My arm felt like a rubber band.''
