HUGHES DISSOLVES AOL WITH ALLIANCE.

WASHINGTON - Officials of Hughes Electronics Corp., the wireless communications wireless communications

 a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Los Angeles-based Hughes will record a $23 million pretax charge for the termination. The filing didn't specify when the charge would be incurred or why the alliance was being dissolved.

Under the termination, Hughes and its subsidiaries were released from a commitment to spend up to $1 billion in sales, marketing, development and promotion efforts to support joint products and services.

DirecTV, Hughes Network Systems Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS), is a provider of broadband satellite network products for businesses and consumers. HNS pioneered the development of high-speed satellite Internet access services and IP-based networks with its original DirecPC service but which it now markets  and America Online agreed to explore the possibility of new business relationships.
