HUGHES AIRCRAFT TO SELL ITS INTERCONNECT SYSTEMS DIVISION
LOS ANGELES, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Aircraft Co., as part of a strategic realignment, has engaged Hambrecht & Quist Inc. of San Francisco, to assist in the divestiture of Hughes Interconnect Systems Division (ISD), (formerly known as Hughes Connecting Devices Division) headquartered in Irvine, Calif.
The Hughes Interconnect Systems Division is recognized as a leader in the design and manufacture of a broad line of interconnect devices and assemblies. Product lines include the patented Gold Dot interconnects for very high density connections in high speed, controlled impedance applications; flexible circuitry and assemblies for high performance applications; fiber optics connectors meeting military specifications; and round wire connectors and assemblies for commercial and military applications. In addition to its headquarters facility housing engineering, marketing and manufacturing activities in Irvine, the division has manufacturing and assembly operations in Santa Ana, Calif., Tijuana, Mexico and Foley, Ala. Total 1991 revenues for the division were just under $100 million.
According to Hughes spokesman Richard Dore, the decision to divest the division is part of an ongoing realignment program underway at Hughes. "The current marketplace forces us to focus our resources around our core business and those areas of diversification that are a natural extension of our core."
ISD has been and will continue to be a critical supplier of components to Hughes. However, since its future growth is in markets and products that may be outside Hughes' focus, it was decided to look for a possible new owner who has a strategic fit and can contribute to ISD's promising future.
