SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2002

HREF (Hypertext REFerence) The HTML code used to create a link to another page. The HREF is an attribute of the anchor tag, which is also used to identify sections within a document.  Tools Corp. (www.href.com) today announced that after 8 months of market testing and deployment by early adopters, Remote Shutdown Utility version 2.0 ("RSU RSU Restricted Stock Unit
RSU Rogers State University (Claremore, Oklahoma)
RSU Rifiuti Solidi Urbani (Italiano)
RSU Rappresentanza Sindacale Unitaria (Italian Group of Unions)
") is available. RSU enables one to use a web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  to securely restart a server running Windows NT, 2000 or XP.

RSU is extremely cost-effective compared to using dedicated hardware for power cycling a server, and compared to paying a technician to reboot To reload the operating system, which restarts the computer. See boot.

(operating system) reboot - (From boot) A boot with the implication that the computer has not been down for long, or that the boot is a bounce intended to clear some state of wedgitude.

a server on short notice. A 3-year RSU license for one server costs $39.95.

RSU is highly reliable. It runs as a dedicated service and was designed to run even when the operating system is almost completely out of resources and common remote control programs no longer function.

RSU is secure. All communication takes place over HTTPS (1) (HyperText Transport Protocol Secure) The protocol for accessing a secure Web server. Using HTTPS in the URL instead of HTTP directs the message to a secure port number rather than the default Web port number of 80. , using Secure Sockets Layer (networking, security) Secure Sockets Layer - (SSL) A protocol designed by Netscape Communications Corporation to provide secure communications over the Internet using asymmetric key encryption. . RSU only responds on a single IP number, port and path combination. Authenticated login is required, and all successful and attempted logins are saved in a history file for monitoring by an administrator.

RSU is quick to install, learn and use. There is a free online tutorial at http://demos.href.com/rsututor.

RSU may be controlled by multiple users, allowing for cooperation among technicians in different time zones, achieving 24x7 coverage of any server.

It takes only a few seconds to initiate a reboot using RSU; one brings up the text-only login form, enters username and password, and presses one button.

RSU initiates a "graceful" shutdown, sending each application a message requesting it to exit, and giving each application a full 20 seconds to respond. For any server with possibly open data files, this method is far preferable to a simple power-off, power-on solution.

HREF offers a full-featured, 30-day free trial of RSU. For full detail including screen shots, see http://www.href.com/rsu.
