HP and Kaiser Permanente Sign $500,000 Custom-Support Agreement for Streamlined Service Activity.PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--June 5, 1997--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it has signed a half-million-dollar custom-support-plan agreement with Kaiser Permanente for streamlined support solutions. The custom support plan captures all HP services at an organizationwide level under one master agreement, which helps Kaiser reduce costs and simplify the service-delivery process through reduced paperwork, account management and equal billings spread over 12 months. The first implementation of the HP custom support plan is in Kaiser's Northern California organization, where a one-year, $500,000 agreement for services and support is in effect. Under the agreement, Kaiser North may order anything it needs -- from parts to training -- without having to cut a separate purchase order and check for each transaction. "The custom support plan is providing Kaiser with a consolidated billing process and increased spending flexibility," said Ron Plasse, commodity manager with Kaiser's National Purchasing Organization. "We're not locked into fixed contracts for servicing individual pieces of equipment, and this helps us reduce operating expenses Operating expenses The amount paid for asset maintenance or the cost of doing business, excluding depreciation. "Eliminating individual transactions for support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services may save a hospital as much as $100 per transaction," said John DeMeo, customer services marketing manager, HP Medical Products Group. "In addition, customers tell us they like the plan because it's straightforward and simple." Introduced earlier this year, the custom support plan offers HP medical customers who purchase a minimum $50,000 of HP services and support annually a blanket purchase order covering service, repairs, parts, upgrades, training, education and consultation for HP medical equipment.
