HP Wins New Lockheed Martin Multimillion Dollar Contract; Supports Company's Engineering Process Improvement Program.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is a leading multinational aerospace manufacturer and advanced technology company formed in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta.
 Corporation has signed a new two-year agreement to purchase HP workstations and servers to support the company's Engineering Process Improvement program (EPI EPI

Lockheed Martin will purchase these systems during the life of the contract -- estimated at as much as $60 million over two years -- which also includes training and support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  from HP.

Among the systems included in this broad-based purchasing agreement are the recently announced HP VISUALIZE C200, B180, B132L+ workstations and the HP Kayak XW PC Workstations, both with HP VISUALIZE fx graphics. The HP VISUALIZE B132 workstations will be used for computer-aided software engineering See CASE.  (CASE) applications, and the HP VISUALIZE B180 and C200 systems will support electronic computer-aided design computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), form of automation that helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists, and other design-related elements using special graphics- and calculations-intensive  (ECAD ECAD Electronic Computer-Aided Design

) applications. In some divisions of Lockheed Martin, 90 percent of the workstations and servers will be HP equipment, which benefits the company by simplifying its procurement procedure and standardizing the equipment list.

HP Exemplar technical servers, including D- and K-class servers, will be used for product data management (PDM (1) (Product Data Management) An information system used to manage the data for a product as it passes from engineering to manufacturing. The data includes plans, geometric models, CAD drawings, images, NC programs as well as all related project data, notes and ), file serving and as compute engines for the various engineering environments.

"The purpose of the EPI program is to develop best-practice-based processes, training and standard tools to support these processes while helping to meet mission success goals within the corporation," said Fred Palmer, director of the EPI program at Lockheed Martin. "Our decision to extend this agreement reflects our ongoing success with the program as well as the solid working relationship we've developed with HP over the years."

The original two-year agreement, which included a third-year option, was signed with Martin Marietta in 1994. At that time, Martin Marietta expected to purchase workstations and servers estimated at $30 million to $40 million over three years from HP. The third-year option was renewed. This new agreement extends the relationship between the companies another two years.
