In 2007 the entire HP OpenView portfolio was rebranded under the strengthened HP Software name.  software to create a central repository for network, system, database, application and storage management. This decision will allow Goodyear to reduce the number of consoles necessary to manage its infrastructure from eight to just one.

"Goodyear's strategy is to implement a worldwide management infrastructure, sharing the management responsibility between our Akron, Ohio Akron is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Summit County.GR6 The municipality is located in northeastern Ohio on the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland to the north and Canton to the south, approximately 60 miles (96 km) west of , site and our European data center," said Steve Buckus, worldwide director of infrastructure, Goodyear. "In order for Goodyear's IT assets to be managed more effectively, we needed a wholistic view of the entire infrastructure from a single point. HP's comprehensive OpenView management technology is providing us with a solution to manage our infrastructure from a single console, rather than the eight we were juggling before."

In the first phase of the project, Goodyear will implement HP OpenView Operations as the management system for its multi-platform infrastructure leveraging the assistance and expertise of HP. Network management, based on HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM NNM Network Node Manager

Phase I also will include the deployment of the HP OpenView OS/400 management solution for Goodyear's AS/400 environment and the HP OpenView Oracle(R) Smart Plug-in to manage critical databases. Furthermore, Goodyear will use HP OpenView Reporter to provide Web-based performance, availability and utilization reporting.

Phase II of the project will be the implementation of HP OpenView Operations for the management of Goodyear's NT server community, which includes 250 servers. Goodyear also will add more database monitoring capabilities during this second phase.

"A centralized point of management control is essential for Goodyear to optimize its IT infrastructure throughout the company," said Jim Grant, general manager, HP OpenView Business Unit. "HP is helping Goodyear face today's challenging business climate with an integrated management solution that will seamlessly manage its entire multi-platform infrastructure worldwide. Not only will this create greater efficiencies for Goodyear, but they expect to save money using OpenView -- very important in this economy."
