HP Provides Goodyear with Worldwide Infrastructure Management from Single HP OpenView Console.

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced that The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, the world's No. 1 tire maker, has selected HP OpenView software to create a central repository for network, system, database, application and storage management. This decision will allow Goodyear to reduce the number of consoles necessary to manage its infrastructure from eight to just one.

"In order for Goodyear's IT assets to be managed more effectively, we needed a wholistic view of the entire infrastructure from a single point. HP's comprehensive OpenView management technology is providing us with a solution to manage our infrastructure from a single console, rather than the eight we were juggling before."

In the first phase of the project, Goodyear will implement HP OpenView Operations as the management system for its multi-platform infrastructure leveraging the assistance and expertise of HP. Network management, based on HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) and NNM Extended Topology, will be integrated into HP OpenView Operations while event and performance agents will be installed on approximately 100 HP-UX, Solaris and AIX systems.

Phase I also will include the deployment of the HP OpenView OS/400 management solution for Goodyear's AS/400 environment and the HP OpenView Oracle(R) Smart Plug-in to manage critical databases. Furthermore, Goodyear will use HP OpenView Reporter to provide Web-based performance, availability and utilization reporting.

Phase II of the project will be the implementation of HP OpenView Operations for the management of Goodyear's NT server community, which includes 250 servers. Goodyear also will add more database monitoring capabilities during this second phase.
