New E-services-on-tap Business Provides Infrastructure

Capabilities on a Pay-per-use Basis

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it will offer service providers "bulletproof Refers to extremely stable hardware and/or software that cannot be brought down no matter what unusual conditions arise. See industrial strength.

" infrastructure capabilities over the Net on a subscription or transaction basis. This method of provisioning infrastructure, which HP calls "e-services-on-tap," allows service providers to spend their time on building customer relationships. This computing "power plant" includes all the technology, management processes and global capabilities required for service providers to run and rapidly scale their businesses.

"The emerging apps-on-tap market requires global-infrastructure simplicity with mission-critical assurance," said Frank Barker, general manager, HP's Computing Utility Services Division. "To win in the customer-loyalty battle, successful service providers need to scale their businesses rapidly while increasing value to their customers. HP's e-services-on-tap offers a new, cost-effective way to buy this kind of computing power over the Net."

New Options for Buying Computing Power

HP already provides qualified service providers with innovative financing solutions that allow providers to own and operate an IT infrastructure on a pay-per-use or revenue-sharing basis. As with HP's e-services-on-tap offering, the pay-per-use and revenue-sharing financing enables providers to improve cash flow by converting much of their fixed investment costs Those program costs required beyond the development phase to introduce into operational use a new capability; to procure initial, additional, or replacement equipment for operational forces; or to provide for major modifications of an existing capability.  into variable expenses that better match their revenue streams.

With the e-services-on-tap model, HP also will host and operate the infrastructure for day-to-day business operations Business operations are those activities involved in the running of a business for the purpose of producing value for the stakeholders. Compare business processes. The outcome of business operations is the harvesting of value from assets , enabling the provider to focus on their company's core competencies. With asset ownership and IT management provided by HP, service providers get predictable costs, guaranteed with one fixed-service-level agreement.

"The next chapter of the Internet will bring a fundamental shift in the way businesses procure their computing power," said Tom Kucharvy, principal for Summit Strategies. "Rather than purchase all the necessary components to build an in-house computing environment, companies are evaluating the cost-effective nature of contracting for a computing infrastructure on a pay-per-use basis."

The computing power plant is designed and operated by HP using an open-systems approach that encompasses UNIX UNIX

HP intends to partner with industry leaders to provide the fullest offering of solutions for bulletproofing the computing power plant.
