HP Outlines Commitment to Enable Mobile E-services for Wireless Service Providers, Extended Enterprises.

24 Initial Partners, Customers Support HP's Initiative

to Drive Innovation for $80 Billion Mobile Data Market

Here at Telecom 99, Hewlett-Packard Company today unveiled the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at enabling the creation of mobile e-services for wireless service providers and extended enterprise environments.

The announcement introduces an integrated hardware/software platform solution for delivering wireless Internet services; a Mobile E-services Bazaar designed to fuel the creation of wireless Internet services; and Mobile E-services-on-Tap, advanced wireless capabilities delivered to HP's service provider customers on a pay-per-use basis from infrastructure equipment owned and operated by HP. Through this announcement, HP is presenting a complete offering of solutions and services for deployment of mobile e-services.

HP also announced that 24 communications companies Communications Company is a communications unit of the United States Marine Corps. They are part of Combat Logistics Regiment 37 , 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3MLG) and III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF). The unit is based out of the Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D.  have lined up behind HP's Mobile E-services initiative, including two of the industry's largest mobile-appliance vendors, Motorola and Nokia, who are committed to working with HP to advance wireless connectivity to the Internet. The worldwide mobile data market is projected to be $80 billion by 2010(1), with the global penetration of wireless phones alone expected to grow to 1 billion by 2003(2).

Integrated Mobile E-services Platform

HP's Integrated Mobile E-services platform is a hardware, software and services bundle that combines Wireless Application Protocol (WAP (1) (Wireless Access Point) See access point.

Mobile E-services Bazaar

To help fuel the creation of innovative mobile e-services, HP plans to establish the Mobile E-services Bazaar. Combining an online "CyberBazaar" community with a number of regional centers of innovation, the Mobile E-services Bazaar would provide a trading community and developers program for wireless operators, service providers, enterprises application providers and technology partners. The Initial Center of Innovation will be located in Helsinki, Finland, considered the "Mobility Silicon Valley." Additional centers will be opened in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Mobile E-services-on-Tap

Through its Mobile E-services-on-Tap platform, HP will offer mobile service capabilities delivered to service providers on a subscription or transaction basis. The Mobile E-services model is designed and operated by HP using an open-systems approach that encompasses UNIX UNIX

          business-critical mobile Internet solutions. Nokia and HP
          intend to collaborate on WAP-based solutions for HP-UX(3)
          and Windows NT servers, delivering e-services over the
          Internet to mobile handheld devices. HP will resell Nokia's
          WAP Server worldwide through direct and indirect channels.


HP announced that its VeriFone division has adapted its VeriSmart e-commerce software to support WAP-based wireless appliances. With WAP implementation, VeriSmart delivers secure sessions with wireless appliances for complete mobile e-commerce offerings.
