HP OmniBER 719 SONET Tester Enhanced for Greater Flexibility.

Hewlett-Packard Company today introduces extensive enhancements to the HP OmniBER 719 communications performance analyzer that enable users to tailor transmission testing to specific rates and then extend the rates as required in the future. The enhancements include lower-rate variants, which allow service providers to configure the multirate tester with maximum rates of 2.5Gb/s, 622Mb/s or 155Mb/s, to match specific network requirements. Lower-rate models are upgradable to the higher rates without loss of capability, and synchronous-only configurations are available at all rates.

Ease-of-use enhancements are designed to simplify and speed-up testing. For example, within the SMART TEST capability, the HP OmniBER 719 automatically explores the payload of a SONET signal down to DS3 or DS1 levels, and graphically illustrates signal structure, framing and any alarmed channels.

HP also has added new mappings: E1 (2Mb/s) mapped into DS3, which allows testing of international 2Mb/s signals that have been multiplexed into the DS3 transport signal; DS1 floating byte sync; and VT1.5 bulk filled mappings.

Background

The HP OmniBER 719 offers multirate SONET testing to OC-48, including concatenated payloads at OC-3c, OC-12c and OC-48c. Key measurements include SONET error/alarm generation, APS times, mixed-payloads detection, pointer-sequence generation, overhead-sequence generation and detection. U.S. Pricing and Availability

The HP OmniBER 719 communications performance analyzer ranges from $25,000 for a 155Mb/s synchronous-only instrument up to $120,000 for a multirate 2.5Gb/s instrument with dual-wavelength optics, T-carrier interfaces and in-lid printer. All variants are available now, with an estimated time of delivery of 12 weeks from receipt of order.
