HP Introduces W-CDMA Signal-Generation Capability to Aid Development of 3G Base-Station and Mobile Receivers; Solution Successfully Demonstrated at NTT DoCoMo, Japan.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announces new wideband code-domain multiple access (W-CDMA See WCDMA. ) signal-generation capabilities that enable wireless-communications R&D engineers to develop W-CDMA base-station and mobile receivers.

W-CDMA is a third-generation (3G) wireless technology designed to deliver higher transport capacity for high-speed data and low-cost voice services than today's wireless networks. With a special option now available for the HP ESG-D series RF signal generators, R&D engineers can accelerate the development of W-CDMA base-station and mobile receivers by fully exercising their receiver to ensure it meets performance requirements.

NTT DoCoMo (NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc., Japan) Founded in 1991, NTT DoCoMo is a spinoff of Japan's NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) which provides wireless services, including cellular, paging, satellite and maritime and in-flight telephone services. , a leading mobile-communications operator in Japan, is coordinating the rollout of the first W-CDMA mobile network. On Aug. 18, HP's test solution was demonstrated successfully during the indoor testing phase of the experimental W-CDMA system.

"This new W-CDMA signal-generation capability, along with design software and signal-analysis products introduced since April, strengthens HP's suite of solutions for W-CDMA product development," said Duane Hartley, general manager of HP's Microwave Instruments Division. "We will continue to address evolving standards, offering the latest in design tools, test equipment and consulting services to keep pace with 3G technology."

Other W-CDMA options now available include Option H97, which provides a multichannel Using two or more paths for transmission or processing. It can refer to a variety of architectures including (1) multiple I/O channels between the CPU and peripheral devices, (2) multiple wires in a cable, (3) multiple "logical" channels within a single wire or fiber or (4) multiple  signal with proper long- and short-code spreading and timeslot multiplexing. This option generates a stimulus for component test applications as well as an interfering signal in adjacent channel-selectivity testing. Test setup is quick and easy, with predefined channel configurations, including Perch and 1 to 127 traffic channels (DTCH) at various symbol rates.
