HP Helps HP 9000 Legacy Environments Prepare for the Year 2000; Cost-effective Program Eases Transition for HP 9000 Users to Next Millennium.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced a comprehensive upgrade program that enables customers with HP 9000 Enterprise Server legacy environments to prepare for the Year 2000. Part of that program, the HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. It is based on SVID and incorporates features from BSD Unix along with several HP innovations.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In addition to the operating-environment software upgrade, the program comprises additional products, services and resources to assist customers with the transition and implementation. Customers transitioning their legacy environments to HP-UX 10.20 and 11 will receive a range of benefits in addition to Year 2000 compliance. HP-UX, Versions 10.20 and beyond, optimize optimize - optimisation  the entire HP 9000 Enterprise Server line and enable business-critical applications such as high-end online transaction processing See transaction processing and OLCP.  and decision-support to run significantly faster.

To help customers take control of their own Year 2000 efforts, HP is offering courses on Year 2000 planning and methodology, as well as discounts on select HP-UX training courses. The courses will address implementation tactics across the enterprise and how to upgrade HP 9000 systems quickly and efficiently. The courses complement HP's existing system-support solutions, which offer customers a wide range of services, including software updates and information, phone-in assistance and account support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services .

HP's Cure2000 Partners, a portfolio of Year 2000 tool and service providers with expertise in HP systems, also will help customers with planning, testing, hardware and software conversion, and overall implementation. Additional program benefits include limited-time-offer trade-in rebates for older HP 9000 Enterprise Server models; special, low-cost leasing terms; and software-license replication for test and development servers.

All HP 9000 customers can take advantage of this program. Customers with support contracts now can upgrade easily to Year 2000-compliant versions of HP-UX and HP applications, and they will continue to have continuous access to the most current releases of all HP software products. Customers without support contracts can receive a free upgrade to HP-UX 10.20, as well as obtain compliant versions of selected HP software products free of charge.
