Based on the most recent EV7 Alpha processor technology, the systems provide customers with a powerful combination of performance, scalability, reliability, manageability and availability features.

HP also announced the availability of a suite of software transition tools and new business practices for customers' long-term investment protection. The tools and practices are part of the company's Alpha RetainTrust program for transitioning customers -- on their own time tables -- to Itanium(R) architecture-based HP Integrity servers.

"Our AlphaServer roadmap is right on schedule, and we are delivering to customers the foundation for a long-term future with HP," said Rich Marcello, senior vice president and general manager, HP Business Critical Servers. "Our new AlphaServer systems offer powerful performance for the foreseeable fore·see

future and, when customers are ready, we will help them evolve to Itanium processor-based HP Integrity servers through the Alpha RetainTrust program."

Since the introduction of the EV7-based AlphaServer family in January, HP has delivered support for system partitions, instant capacity on demand, more flexible power and storage choices, and Linux availability on the AlphaServer ES47 and ES80 systems. New storage options include the HP StorageWorks HP StorageWorks is an HP Portfolio of storage products, including online storage, nearline storage, storage networking , archiving, and storage software.

The product line up includes: Disk arrays
Modular SAN Array 1000, Enterprise Virtual Array 5000 and Disk Array xp1024 systems. These storage offerings also support HP Integrity servers, so customers can easily transition storage support to future platforms.

With their outstanding processor and memory system performance, the new AlphaServer systems are meeting all of our expectations in meeting the diverse scientific and complex research challenges of our users."

In addition to the GS1280 systems, the EV7 processor-based AlphaServer family includes the ES80 departmental server and the ES47 workgroup systems See groupware and workgroup-based network. . AlphaServer systems run both the Tru64 UNIX The 64-bit Unix operating system for HP's AlphaServers. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. ; Linux is available on the AlphaServer ES47 and ES80 systems.

More powerful GS1280 systems ranging up to 64 Alpha processors are planned for later this year. AlphaServer systems based on enhanced EV79 Alpha processor technology are planned to be introduced in 2004.

Alpha RetainTrust Program: New Tools and License Trade-ins

New custom application transition tools and new software license trade-ins are now available as part of the worldwide HP Alpha RetainTrust program. The program, introduced in October 2002 and available at http://www.hp.com/go/alpha-retaintrust, is designed to satisfy HP AlphaServer customers' needs for long-term capacity and growth through joint planning and active support for a smooth evolution to Itanium architecture-based HP Integrity servers.

The Alpha RetainTrust program's extensive service offerings provide a modular approach addressing all aspects of transition with four comprehensive suites in the areas of platform migration, database migration, custom application migration and partner application migration.

Adding to the custom application migration suite, the new tools assist customers in transitioning custom applications from Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. It is based on SVID and incorporates features from BSD Unix along with several HP innovations.

on HP Integrity servers. This full suite of utilities is available free at http://www.hp.com/go/tru64appmigration/.

The tool suite includes a scoping tool, called appscan, to help plan the porting effort; a porting tool, the Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX Software Transition Kit, to determine source level compatibility and provide technical recommendations for moving applications to HP-UX; and a deployment tool, called Tru64 UNIX Migration Environment for HP-UX, providing the habitat to make Tru64 UNIX applications native to HP-UX.

Building upon the business practices included with the Alpha RetainTrust program, the free Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS software license trade-ins are available for customers with active "Rights to New Versions" software support agreements when they move to HP Integrity servers running HP-UX or OpenVMS.
