HP Boosts Java Developer Productivity with HP Netaction Solutions and Alliance with Hitachi.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced the availability of two offerings within the HP Netaction software family to support the Java(R) developer community, as well as an alliance with Hitachi ULSI Systems Co., Ltd. to offer developers of mobile products an integrated hardware-software environment. HP also announced its sponsorship of a popular mobile developer Web site, anywhereyougo.com.

The HP Netaction Internet Operating Environment (IOE) is an integrated family of flexible, modular Internet software products and solutions that provides businesses a foundation to develop, integrate and deploy service-centric computing. Central to HP Netaction IOE are its Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE)-certified and XML-based middleware products, which now include the HP Core Services Framework and HP Internet Server.

HP Core Services Framework (CSF) is a platform for the interoperability of Java application services. As one of the first reference implementations of the Java Services Framework (JSR 111 specification), HP CSF gives developers and independent software vendors and open standards framework that supports the interoperability of Java application services and reuse of software components. Developers and independent software vendors (ISVs) will be able to download and use HP CSF as a foundation for Web-enabled application services. HP CSF enables the rapid, modular inclusion of Java services and application programming interfaces (APIs) into new and existing applications to meet pressing business demands and reduce the time needed to bring applications to market. HP CSF is expected to be available for free download at http://www.hp.bluestone.com in late June.

As HP's first implementation of an application server based on the HP CSF, HP Internet Server marks an addition to HP's application server offering, which also includes the HP Bluestone Total-e-server 7.3. HP Internet Server is an entry-level server targeted at ISVs and developers building server applications and Web services requiring Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) communications, as well as fast, stable execution of Java Server Page (JSP) and Java Servlet code. By embedding the HP Internet Server within new or existing applications, ISVs and enterprise developers can readily implement e-services that deliver superior performance and reliability. HP Internet Server is expected to be available for free download in mid-July at http://www.hp.bluestone.com.

Hitachi Alliance

The alliance with Hitachi ULSI Systems Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., offers HP Netaction solutions as part of an integrated hardware/software environment for developers of mobile products.

Hitachi ULSI plans to integrate and resell HP Chai Appliance Platform software with Hitachi's SuperH Solution Engine, a complete development environment for products using the Hitachi SH microprocessor. Hitachi offers their development environment to software developers and device manufacturers developing a broad range of intelligent devices. The HP Chai Appliance Platform software enables the development and deployment of Java applications, Web connectivity and e-service solutions for devices.

HP Sponsors Mobile Developer Portal

Furthering its support of the Java-developer community, including mobile developers, HP announced its sponsorship of the AYG Web site anywhereyougo.com. AYG, available at www.ayg.com, is a vendor-neutral portal providing mobile application developers a collaborative community, comprehensive mobile information and online testing. AYG is one of the most frequently visited sites for mobile developers and includes in-depth technical content for Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), J2EE and other mobile technologies.
