Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it has added send-to-e-mail capabilities to its line of HP Mopier multifunction peripherals as part of its commitment to constantly innovate in·no·vate

and invent solutions that enable its customers to increase productivity through simple information exchange. The HP Digital Sender module is software that allows users to turn paper-based documents into e-mail from the HP Mopier control panel. HP also has expanded the family of qualified HP Mopier distributors beyond the Business Technology Association (BTA) channel to include the COMDEX channel, and expanded customers' service and support options for the HP Mopier line of multifunction peripherals.

"The send-to-e-mail solution offers HP Mopier customers a simple and easy way to send paper-based documents as e-mail," said Keith Kmetz, industry analyst for International Data Corporation (IDC). "Not only will customers be able to do more with their documents, they also will save money by sending via e-mail rather than fax."

Leveraging HP's Digital Sender technology, the Digital Sender module software allows HP Mopier users to turn paper-based documents into e-mail with the touch of a button. Now, HP Mopier users can send their documents to any Internet address There are two kinds of addresses that are widely used on the Internet. One is a person's e-mail address, and the other is the address of a Web site, which is known as a URL. Following is an explanation of Internet e-mail addresses only. Besides an increase in productivity, customers and recipients will enjoy the near-original image quality of the files sent via the HP Mopier Digital Sender module.

Currently, there are more than 400 locations nationwide where customers can purchase an HP Mopier from a qualified BTA distributor. Because of the increasing number of multifunction peripherals connected to company networks, job responsibilities are shifting one way or another between IT and facility managers. In an effort to meet customer needs, HP will now recruit qualified resellers within its COMDEX channel. Now, customers will have a choice of where and how they purchase an HP Mopier.

"HP's expanded distribution offers customers the convenience of continuing to purchase networked multifunction devices through the channel they are comfortable with," said Kmetz. "For example, if an IT manager is responsible for purchasing anything that goes on their company's network, now they have the power to leverage their established relationship with the COMDEX channel to find the best HP Mopier solution for them."

Because Comdex dealers usually don't offer service and support beyond manufacturer offerings, HP has developed an HP-branded service and support program for the HP Mopier for $849 (U.S.) per year. Although the program was conceived with the COMDEX resellers in mind, the service and support package will be available to any of HP's qualified BTA distributors.
