HP Announces Line of LaserJet Multifunction Printers; HP LaserJet MFP Solutions Provide Customers with Convenience-copying and Digital-sending Capabilities.

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced a suite of HP LaserJet printer solutions that offer multifunction capabilities, including printing, copying and digital sending. Extending its current family of all-in-one solutions, HP introduced the HP Color LaserJet 8550MFP printer, the HP LaserJet 8000MFP and 8100MFP printers, and an HP LaserJet MFP (multifunction product) upgrade kit.

In response to rapid growth in the color-printing market, HP introduced its first color laser printer with walk-up, full-color copying capabilities -- the HP Color LaserJet 8550MFP printer. In addition to convenience copying, the LaserJet 8550MFP printer offers the quality, reliability and networkability standard in HP's industry-leading LaserJet printers. The LaserJet 8550 series of printers boast a rich feature set, including 6 pages-per-minute (ppm) color and 24 ppm monochrome engine speed, 600-dpi resolution with HP ImageREt 2400, 11-inch by 17-inch duplex capability, and support for a wide range of media types and paper-handling accessories (see today's related release).

The HP LaserJet 8000MFP and 8100MFP printers offer great network printing as well as walk-up, convenience-copying and digital-sending capabilities. Both the 24 ppm LaserJet 8000MFP and the 32 ppm LaserJet 8100MFP printers deliver fast, high-quality output and offer paper-handling and finishing capabilities that are designed for demanding network printing and digital copying applications. The LaserJet 8000MFP and 8100MFP printers replace, respectively, the HP Mopier 240 and 320 multifunction printers.

HP also introduced the LaserJet MFP upgrade kit. The MFP upgrade kit allows customers to add convenience-copying and digital-sending capabilities to their HP LaserJet 8000 and 8100 printers. This enables customers to protect and leverage their investments in HP printing technology.

The HP LaserJet MFP upgrade kit includes the following:

      --  HP Digital Copy Module, which produces copies using HP's
        single-pass copying functionality, drastically reducing paper
        jams;

      --  HP Digital Sender software, which enables customers to save
        money by sending their hardcopy documents via e-mail,
        leveraging their existing network, rather than distribution
        via the more costly fax method;

      --  a hard-disk drive; 32MB of DIMM memory; dynamic RIP-once
        technology; and DIMM firmware; and

      --  installation instructions and a CD Users Guide, providing IT
        professionals the option of installing the upgrade themselves.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

The HP LaserJet 8000MFP and 8100MFP printers are scheduled to be available to HP resellers on May 1. The HP Color LaserJet 8550MFP and the HP LaserJet MFP upgrade kit are available now. HP LaserJet MFP solutions will sell for the following estimated U.S. street prices(1):
