HOW TO TURN YOUR OLD CAR BATTERY INTO A TREE

HOW TO TURN YOUR OLD CAR BATTERY INTO A TREE
PHILADELPHIA, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- What can you possibly do with

that old car battery that's been sitting in your garage ever since you replaced it three years ago?
You know which one -- the one you have absolutely no idea how to get rid of, the one you've been hoping will just mysteriously disappear some day.
Well, there's now a way you can dispose of it in an environmentally sound manner ... and at the same time get a White Pine sapling to plant in your yard. It's Sunoco's "Made in the Shade Trade-In."
The unique program is being held at all participating Sunoco Ultra Service Centers in Central and Western Pennsylvania from Saturday, May 9, through the following Sunday, May 17. Just bring in an old battery from an automobile, motorcycle, or tractor (maximum two per motorist) any time during business hours and you'll receive a beautiful new sapling that will make the air cleaner as it grows by adding oxygen and removing carbon dioxide, a source of the "Greenhouse Effect."
Every battery traded in will be completely recycled by the East Penn Manufacturing Company in Lyon Station, Pa. Recycling saves energy, conserves resources, and reduces potentially hazardous waste. The battery acid, lead and plastic case are recycled and used in new batteries, while the old cell separators are used to fire the smelter at the factory. Smoke from the furnace is circulated in a closed-loop system, enabling the nitrogen and sulfur in the fumes to be trapped and processed into liquid fertilizer.
Lynn Hirzel, program manager, said, "Our hope is that do-it- yourselfers will take this opportunity to see that their old batteries are properly disposed of and at the same time plant a tree that will provide environmental benefits for decades to come."
Call 1-800-ULTRA94 (Prompt 4, Customer Relations) for the names and addresses of participating Ultra Service Center Dealers in your area.
