HOW THE GRINCH STOLE DINNERWARE.
"It's a fun Christmas dinnerware pattern to share with family and friends," said Rick Bapst, national sales director for Shadle Enterprises. Bapst added that the line is being pitched to department stores as well as specialty retailers.
The selection includes four, four-piece place-setting patterns, a six-piece mug set, a tidbit tray, flatware, glassware and cookie jars. Retail prices range from $4.99 for individual pieces to $24.99 for a place setting. These items will feature characters from the film as well as a Dr. Seuss design style. Packaging, created by Universal Studios, will highlight the products' links to the movie.
Also included in the line will be a higher-end pattern made of oversized dinnerware, fashioned after dinnerware to be used in the movie, which stars Jim Carrey as the Grinch. Accessory pieces range in retail price from $35 to $50. Although there is obvious kid appeal, Bapst indicated the dinnerware line would be marketed for adults, with child accessories for the line, including lunch boxes and mugs.
Bapst expects the pieces to be ready to ship in the early fall. There will initially be between 18 and 25 SKUs available, and the company is hoping the line will become collectible, with line extensions made every year.
