HOUSING AUTHORITY GETS CRIME FUNDS.

Congress has allocated more than $100,000 to the Area Housing Authority of Ventura County to support local efforts to fight drugs and related crimes.

The money - $105,300 - will come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the fourth year the authority has qualified for federal anti-crime funding. It will be divided among several programs in Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  and surrounding cities to help prevent drug use and related crimes among youths living in public housing projects.

``We can help channel the activities of these kids to things other than drug use, because many kids - and not just those who live in public housing - have no supervision,'' said Edward Adams Edward Adams (February 24, 1824 - November 12, 1856) was an English naval surgeon and naturalist.

Adams was born at Great Barton, near Bury St Edmunds. He became interested in natural history as a child.

Some of the money will go to a program run by the authority and California Lutheran University Mission statement
The University's mission statement is as follows:

"California Lutheran University is a diverse, scholarly community dedicated to excellence in the liberal arts and professional studies.
, which offers tutoring and computer instruction to youths in Ellis Terrace in Camarillo, and Fiore Gardens and Leggett Court in Thousand Oaks.

Grant money also will pay to shuttle kids to and from classes and recreational programs, continue a scholarship fund for local youths and support an adult education program at public housing projects, where vocational and computer training, and parenting classes and classes are taught.

``We use these funds for educational programs, for leadership training and to get the kids involved in athletics and to get them thinking about their own futures,'' Adams said.

In addition to program funding, the grant money can be used to pay salaries of security guards, to reimburse re·im·burse

``These funds will help strengthen a partnership between local law enforcement and community residents committed to combating drug trafficking,'' said Rep. Brad Sherman Bradley J. "Brad" Sherman (born October 24 1954) is an American politician. He has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing California's At-large congressional district. , D-Woodland Hills, who helped expedite the release of the grant money to the authority.
