Rosters chosen for Valley hoops game

The Battle of the Valley boys' senior All-Star game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games  is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 21 at Cal State Northridge.

The game will feature area standout players divided into two teams of 14. The West roster is tentatively slated to feature Poly of Sun Valley's DJ Gay and Santiago Moreno, Westlake's Allen Scott, Calabasas' Shane Foster, Taft of Woodland Hills' Garrett Green, Cleveland of Reseda's Derrick Denson, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks' Pierce Brooks and Jose Garcia, Chaminade of West Hills' Jeff Rosen and Max Piner, Thousand Oaks' Bobby Macias and Jake Poppen, and Oak Park's Kareem Maddox.

The East is tentatively scheduled to feature Grant of Van Nuys' Mike Avecilla, Reseda's Suliaman Sekamwa, Harvard-Westlake of Studio City's Jabari Trotter, La Canada's Adam Malik, Van Nuys' Justus Von Wright, Sylmar's Dwight Jones, Village Christian of Sun Valley's Wayne Robinson, Buckley of Sherman Oaks' Richie Polan and Hussein Habibi, Hart of Newhall's Brian Kimble, Canyon of Canyon Country's Ryan Kuhn, Palmdale's Chris Hicks and Granada Hills' Jonathan Bent.

Bryan Cantwell of Chaminade will coach the West and Buckley's Mike Hamilton will be the East's coach.

Holiday receives statewide awards

Campbell Hall of North Hollywood junior boys' basketball standout Jrue Holiday was honored with two awards by Cal-Hi Sports after leading the Vikings to their second Div. IV state title in three years.

Holiday, who averaged 22.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.9 steals, was selected as the Div. IV state player of the year as well as the state's top junior. The 6-foot-3 wing, who led the Vikings to the Southern Section Div. III-AA title, is considered the West Coast's top prospect in the Class of 2008.

Thousand Oaks' Ritz heading to Yale

Thousand Oaks senior Lauren Ritz, who trains at the Weil Academy in Ojai, has committed to play tennis at Yale.

Ritz, who shared Daily News Doubles Team of the Year honors in 2005 with her sister Jenna, reached the Southern Section semifinals as a junior.

The former Marmonte League champion captured the 18-under doubles title with Troy of Fullerton's Alison Ramos at the Copper Bowl in Arizona in January.
