Orlandini, Eichler receive first-team Div. I honors

 of La Canada Flintridge and Audrey Eichler of Harvard-Westlake of Studio City have been named to the All-Southern Section Div. I first team.

It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  Bixby and Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills' Sammantha Toben were first-team picks.

Girl power: Moorpark High may still be reeling from a 24-22 loss Saturday to Canyon of Canyon Country in the Southern Section Northern Division football finals, but the girls' basketball team is going strong.

The surprising Musketeers (8-0) have emerged into one of the area's most feared teams, beating annual powers Newbury Park and Chaminade of WestHills.

Moorpark will find out just how good it is this week in the Ventura High tournament, which begins at 3 p.m. today against Pacifica of Oxnard (5-1).

On Thursday, the Musketeers face powerhouse Buena of Ventura (4-0). Buena scored a 42-41 victory last week over Hart of Newhall, the Daily News' top-ranked team.

In more girls' basketball news, defending Southern Section Div. I-A champion Hart is ranked No. 17 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, marking the second consecutive season the Indians have been ranked in the top 20 to begin the season. Hart has returned four starters, including Oregon-bound Tatianna Thomas.

JC softball standouts headed to the mountains: Elyce McKenna and Courtney Ribnick, readying for their sophomore seasons at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. , have signed with Division II Mesa State College History

McKenna (Canyon High) batted .281 with 20 RBIs last season, and Ribnick (Hart) batted .292 with one home run and 22 RBIs.

In other Canyons softball news, coach Ray Whitten has received an Easton Victory Club award in recognition of his 400th victory. In his 20-year career, Whitten (425-301-1) has won eight Western State Conference titles and been named conference Coach of the Year six times. He was the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Antelope Valley-area tennis tandem wins tourney: Quartz Hill girls' tennis standout Ashley Litchfield teamed with Lancaster's Linda Reickgenannt to win the 18-under division of the Palm Valley Tournament of Champions over the weekend.

Litchfield, a senior, recently concluded one of the most distinguished careers in Golden League history, winning four individual titles while compiling a 138-0 league record.

Litchfield, considered a Div. I prospect, was looking to gain experience in the doubles circuit in advance of a collegiate career where most players play both singles and doubles.

Reickgenannt, a junior, is a German exchange student who won the Golden League's doubles title with Jesica Abraguin.
