``I tell you one thing: Terrance Oates sure looks like a varsity running back,'' Canyon coach Harry Welch said. ``He's 14 going on 18, and he's tough.''

A native of North Carolina, he spent the last year of his life in Geneva, Switzerland.

In other prep recruiting news, track athletes Chris Barton of Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks has signed with Iowa, and Aubree Stark of Oak Park has signed with UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Barton is a 400-meter dash runner, and Stark is a girls' pole vaulter.

Also, Agoura girls' water polo goalie Sara Gralitzer has signed with Hawaii. Gralitzer was a first-team All-Southern Section selection as a junior when she helped the Chargers to the Southern Section Div. IV final.

The Mission College men's soccer team continued its remarkable run this season Tuesday, using a pair of goals from Rudy Maravilla to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit and defeat host Long Beach City, 2-1, in a Southern California Regional playoff game.

``We're playing our best soccer of the season right now,'' Mission coach E.B.Madha said. ``We're peaking at the right time and getting more confident with each game. The only way we're going to lose is if we beat ourselves.''

The Eagles (21-1-3) have already eclipsed the school record for wins in a season and had 11 players selected to the Western State Conference first and second teams, highlighted byconference player of the year front-runner Jhonthan Bravo.

With the victory over Long Beach City, ranked No.5 in the nation, Mission, seeded No.6, advances to the quarterfinals against No.2 Irvine Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday.
