HOT, HOT, HOT -- BUT NOT RECORD BREAKING.

Byline: Daily News

PALMDALE -- Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
will be hot this weekend, though records won't be set.

The National Weather Service predicted high temperatures in Palmdale of 109 today and 108 Sunday, declining Monday to 104.

``Saturday should be the warmest, that's the peak,'' Bonnie bon·ny also bon·nie

Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service, said Friday. ``Everyone should go out and get squirt guns and water balloons A water balloon, or water bomb is a simple small latex rubber balloon filled with water. The user may then throw the water filled balloon at a desired target. They are commonly used by children in carrying out practical jokes or water balloon fights. .''

The triple-digit temperatures are about 10 degrees hotter than normal, but about the same as last year at this time. One year ago the temperature in Lancaster was 108, on its way upward to 110 degrees three days later.

The National Weather Service's record high temperature for Palmdale is 113, set July 10 and 11, 1961, and again on July 14, 1972. For Lancaster -- where National Weather Service records don't go back as far -- the record is 112, set July 9, 1981.

Meanwhile, California power officials and Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. It provides 11 million people with electricity.  asked residents and businesses to conserve electricity, which hit a peak demand Friday afternoon of more than 44,200 megawatts -- just off the record peak demand of 45,431 megawatts set July 20, 2005.

California power officials issued a ``power watch'' calling for conservation through Monday and told power-plant and transmission line operators not to do any unapproved un·ap·proved

 maintenance work.

Monday's usage could be higher than Friday's, officials said.

``When we have very high temperatures, we have very high demand for air conditioning air conditioning, mechanical process for controlling the humidity, temperature, cleanliness, and circulation of air in buildings and rooms. Indoor air is conditioned and regulated to maintain the temperature-humidity ratio that is most comfortable and healthful. ,'' Edison spokesman Marlon Walker said.

The Weather Service says there's a 20 percent chance of Antelope Valley thunderstorms thunderstorms

Sunday afternoon and evening, and again on Monday.
