HOSPITAL HELPS KEEP KIDS HEALTHY, HAPPY.

LANCASTER -- Some of the Antelope antelope, name applied to a large number of hoofed, ruminant mammals of the cattle family (Bovidae), which also includes the sheep and goats. The North American pronghorn is sometimes called an antelope, but belongs to a separate, related family (Antilocapridae).  Valley's least fortunate children will soon be riding away with new holiday gifts.

 to the local Toys for Tots Toys For Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which donates toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. ``I guess I wanted a bike one day when I was young, so it just struck me that a new bike would be nice for a kid to have,'' Haviland said.

Haviland collected donations from hospital employees. The program has contributed more than 500 bikes since its inception.

``It's just something I wanted to do, and I was going to do it whether I got one bike or 100 bikes,'' Haviland said. ``Everybody's really jumped in (and) gave us a really big hand.''

Haviland, a former Marine, has participated in charitable programs at the hospital for years, including holiday food and clothing drives.

``Making the community a healthier place is part of our hospital's mission and culture,'' hospital CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Les Wong said in a prepared statement. ``The desire to make a positive difference can be seen in the employees throughout our hospital as they go above and beyond their jobs and reach out to the community in various ways throughout the entire year.''

Toys for Tots has existed since 1947.

``Sometimes people need help,'' Haviland said. ``There's a lot of people that are unemployed, and they aren't able to give their kids anything nice for Christmas.''
