`` `I told you so' is the feeling I have for anyone who doubted it,'' Schillo said. ``They have done an outstanding job in operating the hospital in a professional fashion and with their clinics, the family practice programs, etc.''

Commission officials have said many health care organizations receive the same rating, which is the second-highest that can be received. The rating was given after an investigation of a range of hospital operations - from patient care to facility maintenance.

The commission would not reveal the recommendations listed in the report, which is scheduled to be made public May 8.

Failure to respond to the recommendations will likely result in a downgraded status of ``conditional accreditation,'' which would warrant another review, said Kurt Patton, executive director of the commission's hospital accreditation Hospital accreditation has been defined as “A self-assessment and external peer assessment process used by health care organisations to accurately assess their level of performance in relation to established standards and to implement ways to continuously  program.

He said allegations by state Sen. Cathie Wright, R-Simi Valley, that Health Care Agency Director Pierre Durand Pierre Durand is the name of several people:

He added, however, that if an audit by the state Department of Mental Health verifies the allegations, his office would likely conduct another review to see if patient care, hospital management or building and safety measures safety measures,

Durand and county Auditor Thomas Mahon, who conducted his own financial review of mental health services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract , have said there are no financial irregularities within the two entities.

Currently, the hospital is responsible for sending the commission written progress reports on the designated improvement areas.

``There's no guarantee we're not going to make another site visit,'' said Patton, referring to the six-month deadline.

VCMC's Medical Director Richard Ashby, however, was pleased at the review.

``It confirms our knowledge that we have a very strong medical system of hospital and out-patient clinics,'' Ashby said. ``We were particularly pleased with the strong and positive findings in the areas of improving organization since the previous survey, as well as patient rights and patient assessment.''

The Chicago-based commission, established in 1951, conducts accreditation reviews for more than 20,000 health care organizations, including more than 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
