HORSE RACING UPDATE: GIACOMO WILL RUN IN STRUB.Byline: Kevin Modesti Staff Writer ARCADIA - Giacomo, the Kentucky Derby Kentucky Derby One of the classic U.S. Thoroughbred horse races. It was established in 1875 and run annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs track in Louisville, Ky. With the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, it makes up U.S. racing's coveted Triple Crown. winner at 50-1 odds last May, will return to competition in the Strub Stakes The Strub Stakes is an American race for thoroughbred horses run at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California each year. Currently a Grade II stakes race with a purse of $300,000, it is open to horses, age four, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the dirt and offers. at Santa Anita on Saturday, trainer John Shirreffs said. Giacomo finished third in the Preakness and seventh in the Belmont Stakes in June before having surgery to remove bone chips from a knee and ankle. He got back on a steady workout schedule 10 weeks ago. Shirreffs said Wednesday he thinks Giacomo's best is yet to come. ``You see a difference in him between his 3-year-old year and the start of his 4-year-old year,'' said Shirreffs, who said Giacomo has gained 150 pounds. ``He's a bigger, stronger horse.'' A dozen horses are expected to be entered in the $300,000 Strub, a 1 1/8-mile race for 4-year-olds. Among them are High Limit, a photo-finish winner in the San Pasqual Handicap The San Pasqual Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses run at Santa Anita Park each year. The race is open to horses age three and up willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt. It offers a purse of $150,000. Winners
