HORSE RACING'S BEST ON DISPLAY AT OAK TREE P. VALENZUELA COULD MAKE HIS RETURN.

In addition, two-time Oak Tree riding champion Patrick Valenzuela, who has a long history of substance abuse, is tentatively set to return to action Thursday if he receives clearance from the California Horse Racing Board.

Valenzuela has been idle since July 16, except for one winning ride aboard Becrux in the Woodbine Mile in Canada on Sept. 17. A son of Triple Crown winner Affirmed, The Tin Man has won three of four races since, including the Grade I Arlington Million when some lamented afterward about the turtle-like pace, but Mandella would have none of it when reached by phone Tuesday.

``I might be prejudiced, but I've watched the replay of the race and you know, the favorite and the second favorite were both within a length at the quarter pole,'' Mandella said.

``They had every chance he did. It's not like he had five (lengths) on them all the way and then just held on. It wasn't a walkover. But he doesn't need me to defend his record.''

Today's marquee race is the Grade III Senator Ken Maddy Handicap The Senator Ken Maddy Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses run each year at Santa Anita Park, California, USA, during the Oak Tree Racing Association meet. The race is open to three year olds and up willing to race six and a half furlongs on the downhill turf course. , which will feature Santa Anita downhill turf specialist Cambiocorsa.
