FONTANA - Ron Hornaday Ron Hornaday, Jr. (born in Palmdale, California on June 20, 1958) is a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver. He is the father of former NASCAR driver Ronnie Hornaday, and the son of Ron Hornaday, Sr., a two time Winston West Champion.  Jr. went from third-fastest in NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. The former Saugus Speedway champion from Palmdale lost about a second off his lap times from Friday morning's practice to the afternoon qualifying session.

``The track felt a little rough, but it is going to make for a good race,'' said Hornaday, driver of the No. 2 Chevy for Richard Childress Racing RCR Enterprises, LLC, doing business as Richard Childress Racing, is a NASCAR team fielding Chevrolets for Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, and Scott Wimmer in the NEXTEL Cup Series as well as the #2 BB&T Chevy for Clint Bowyer, the #21 AutoZone Chevy for Harvick . ``We are going to run two- or three-wide here, which is going to make this track really fun to drive.''

Hornaday's best lap in the morning session was 39.480 seconds (182.371 mph), but he qualified in 40.210 seconds (179.060 mph). Jason Leffler from Long Beach won the pole with a lap of 39.512 seconds (182.223 mph).

Still, Hornaday said he is happy with his team's car.

``This is the best car I've ever unloaded here and I am really happy with all the guys that have been working on the race car,'' said Hornaday, who finished 10th in the Busch Series race at California Speedway last year.

Hornaday's best finish at California Speedway came in his days on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He was third in the 1998 race at the Fontana oval.

``I think I have always had a good feel for the track,'' Hornaday said. ``We ran very well in the Truck Series at California Speedway. We never finished outside the top 10. It just depends on what the situation is. I think we have had good runs there every year, we just never finished where we felt we should have. I think we showed last year that we can qualify upfront and race in the top five all day long. I think we have a great shot at a win.''

First introduced as part of Pontiac's full-size model offering for the 1962 model year, the Grand Prix name has also been applied to cars in the personal luxury car market segment and the  for today's NASCAR Grand National Division West Series King Taco 200, but a happy hour scrape with driver Brandon Miller will knock the Saugus High graduate to the back of the 30-car field.

Woodside, making his second start of the season, will be in the team's backup car after his Thursday night collision.

NASCAR Busch Series driver Clint Bowyer won the pole for the West Series race. He clocked a lap in 41.537 seconds (173.339 mph) around the 2-mile track.

``It feels good to be on the pole,'' said Bowyer bow·yer

NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick will be in the No. 21 Chevy for today's Busch Series race. Harvick, a driver from Bakersfeld, also drives the No. 29 Chevy for RCR RCR Richard Childress Racing

Miller qualified second and will maintain his starting spot despite the crash with Woodside.

``We really had a good car in practice. The time did not show it as much,'' said Miller, driver of the No. 68 Cal Spas Pontiac. ``We ran out of time at the end. I did not get a chance to do a practice qualifying run. We just kind of guessed on the qualifying set-up a little bit, but it ended up working out. I think we got a pretty good car for the race.''

Other notables in the West Series race are Ken Schrader, who drives the No. 49 Dodge for BAM Racing on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, and Nick Joanides, a driver from Woodland Hills and former Saugus Speedway competitor who is making his West Series debut.

Schrader qualified eighth in his No. 99 Federated Connected and treated as one. See federated database and federated directories.  Auto Parts Dodge. Joanides, driving the No. 4 Chevy for Puskarich Racing, will start 22nd.

``I have not been happy so far,'' said Schrader, who is making his second West Series start of the year. ``We are trying some different stuff for the Cup car, and we will just see what it does.''
