HOPE AIRPORT BREAKS RECORD AS USE SOARS BURBANK'S JUMP ATTRIBUTED TO NEW EAST COAST SERVICES.

Byline: Jason Kandel Staff Writer

BURBANK - A record number of passengers used Bob Hope Airport Bob Hope Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a regional and national airport located in Burbank, California, United States.

It was formerly known as United Airport (1930-1934); Union Air Terminal (1934-1940);
 last year, a jump that officials attribute to an increase in service to the East Coast.

More than 5.5 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2005, beating highs of 4.9 million in 1995 and 2004, records show.

``We have very strongly recovered in the fall-off in traffic after 9-11, and the traditional routes along the West Coast are performing at a very strong level right now,'' airport spokesman Victor Gill gill, in weights and measures

 said.

Some of the increase was attributed to JetBlue's nonstop HP's brand name for its fault-tolerant servers, which range in size from four CPUs to 4,000 CPUs. The NonStop line was created by Tandem Computers, which was acquired by Compaq, which later became part of HP.  service to New York City New York City: see New York, city.

``Certainly our flight loads have been pretty full and customers seem to enjoy flying out of Bob Hope Airport,'' JetBlue spokesman Brandon Hamm said.

Delta Air Lines began offering a daily nonstop flight to Atlanta and flights to Salt Lake City through SkyWest in January. Its planes carried 89,887 passengers through Bob Hope in 2005, statistics show. Delta's connection with SkyWest to Salt Lake City had 98,488 passengers last year.

 is the airport's biggest user and usually accounts for more than 65 percent of passenger traffic, officials said. It carried more than 3.5 million passengers in and out of Burbank last year, a jump of 5 percent over the previous year, statistics show.

Not only did more people use the airport last year, more jets did as well. The airport averaged 90 flights a day among 10 carriers in 2005, compared with 82 daily flights among nine carriers in 2004, statistics show.

Some 61.5 million travelers used LAX in 2005, compared with 60.7 million in 2004, statistics show.

Bob Hope's increase comes as the airport is expected to raise parking fees to cover higher expenses.

These are the same parking fees the airport used in 2001. Airport officials cut fees after 9-11 because of a drop in passenger traffic and increased competition from the Star Park lot, which was owned then by a private company, and which the airport recently bought, Gill said.
