HOOFERS' CRUISE TAP DANCERS WIN TOP HONORS IN COMPETITION.

PALMDALE - Antelope Valley's senior tap dance group, the Boogie Woogie Mamas, brought home the gold from a January competition cruise sponsored by All American Dance Championship.

Dancing aboard Costa Cruise Line's Atlantica while the ship was en route from Cozumel to Jamaica, the ladies won four gold medals and a plaque for highest points scored in the large group category.

Winning numbers performed by the group included the lyrical dance Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music.  ``I Feel Lucky,'' and two tap numbers, ``I Move On'' and ``New York New York, state, United States

.'' Nancy Bohman earned the fourth gold for her lyrical solo performance to ``These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.''

When they weren't rehearsing, the dancers enjoyed visiting Mayan ruins in Cozumel, climbing Dunn's River Falls Dunn's River Falls is a famous waterfall near Ocho Rios, Jamaica and a major Caribbean tourist attraction. The falls empty into the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the very few rivers in the world that actually fall directly into the sea.  in Ocho Rio, Jamaica, swimming with dolphins and stingrays, and sampling rum cakes on Grand Cayman Grand Cayman

Participating dancers included Barbara Adolph, Nancy Bohman, Patricia Bricker, Karen Bullock, Doris Clark, Darlene Ellerkamp, Tillie Garza, Mary Jean MacPherson, Joann Marshall, Barbara Mitchell, Gloria Noble, Barbara Parkhurst, Joyce Pearson, Jackie Reid, Carol Rivera, Karyl Thompson and Mary Toy.
