The night was wrapped in sequins, nostalgia, genuine bear hugs and intriguing table talk at the Valley Industry and Commerce Association's 50th Anniversary gala.

About 500 leaders from business, politics and civic organizations attended the celebration at the Sheraton Universal Hotel.

For David J David J. Haskins (b. April 24, 1957, in Northampton, England) is a British alternative rock musician. He was the bassist for the seminal gothic rock band Bauhaus. Life and work . Auger, the former Daily News publisher who is now general manager of Time Warner Communications, it was another in a string of honors in recent months. Auger was last feted in May with the ONE Award for community service.

On Saturday, he accepted VICA's Robert E. Gibson Corporate Award for Excellence on behalf of Time Warner.

``Other communities don't have credibility,'' he said. ``They don't have VICA.''

The biggest rumor of the night - one that turned out to be true - was that Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky is seriously thinking about challenging Mayor Richard Riordan - who incidentally wasn't on hand for the event.

``Yes,'' said Yaroslavsky. ``I'm thinking about running for mayor because friends are urging me, but I'm not losing sleep over the decision, which I have not yet made''

However, Yaroslavsky did make it clear what his priorities would be if he ever does become mayor: ``The two issues of most importance to me are health care and transportation.''

Yaroslavsky gave lots of credit to VICA for helping turn the city around.

``Four years ago we were $1 billion in debt; now it looks like by the end of the year we will be $30 (million) to $50 million in the black, thanks in part to VICA,'' he said.

A lot of local leaders gave that credit to Bonny Herman, president of VICA since 1986.

Also attending was Walter Mosher A mosher is a person who is crossed between goth/punk/skater they have long hair and listen to music like slipknot and metal music. Some people call them headbangers. At certain music shows they have something called a mosh pit, basically its a fight pit with loads of people bashing each other. , the winner of the Fernando Award, the highest civic honor for service in the Valley. Past Fernando winners were also on hand, including David Fleming, Bob Selleck, Fred Thomas, Bud Brown and Bob Neiman.
