 HONEYWELL EXPANDS INTO RUSSIA
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell Inc. (NYSE: HON)

established an affiliate company today in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The company will supply control components, products, systems and services to the homes and buildings market in Russia.
Honeywell has had a presence in Russia since 1974, when it opened its Moscow office as a base for business development in the former Soviet republics.
In the building automation area, Honeywell is equipping major building complexes -- such as the Kremlin Palace of Congress and the Moscow World Trade Centre; hotels in Moscow, Yalta and Pitsunda; and the Moscow Veteran and Kremlin hospitals -- with Honeywell controls.
In 1988, Honeywell formed STERCH Controls, a joint-venture company originally established to provide process controls for the chemical fertilizer industry. Honeywell's partner is the Russian Agrochim, a newly formed trust that replaced the former Soviet Ministry of Mineral Fertilizer. Today, STERCH Controls offers control solutions to a whole range of industries, including petrochemicals, oil refining and natural gas processing, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, food processing and consumer goods. It is currently installing industrial automation systems for several companies, including AZOT, Gorlovka Stirol, JV AMCO and Permnefteorgsynthesys.
Honeywell has continued its investment strategy in Russia by forming Honeywell Aviation Control Moscow. The mission of Honeywell Aviation Control Moscow is to become a leading supplier, both to the Commonwealth of Independent States and global markets, of avionics products, systems and services.
Honeywell also supplies control components and equipment to original equipment manufacturers. Recent successes include Avtoexport and Kzame.
Commenting in St. Petersburg today, Michael R. Bonsignore, Honeywell's executive vice president and chief operating officer for International, and Home and Building and Control, said: "Honeywell has a network of key centers of operations that provide product and marketing support for all of our 16 affiliates in Europe. Beyond that, we bring to Russia the immense resources of Honeywell with its 58,000 employees worldwide and an R&D budget of $301 million in 1991 alone. We also give full after-sales support, in maintenance contracts for equipment, in spare parts management contracts and in software enhancement and support."
Giannantonio Ferrari, president of Honeywell Europe, said: "We are deeply committed to Russia, and are delighted to be providing an even firmer base for our operations here. Russia is one of the great growth markets in Europe, and we believe that the quality of our products and services is going to be an integral part of assisting Russian industry improve productivity, thus achieving that continued growth."
