HONEYMOON SWEET; `NEWLYWED' LAKERS COME BACK AGAIN TO DEFEAT PHOENIX : LAKERS 101, PHOENIX 95.

Byline: Howard Beck Daily News Staff Writer

It was an uneasy marriage at first, the Lakers and Dennis Rodman, and complicated by a change in the head of household with the arrival of surrogate father-coach Kurt Rambis Darrell Kurt Rambis (born February 25, 1958 in Cupertino, California) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. .

But the Lakers promptly won four straight, and Lakers executive Jerry West
"Jerry West" was also a pseudonym used by Andrew E. Svenson.

deemed the new era of good feeling a mere honeymoon for the newlyweds.

They're making it a long vacation Long Vacation is a Japanese television drama from Fuji Television, first shown in Japan from 15 April to 24 June 1996. Takuya Kimura played the male lead. The show enjoyed high ratings and would be the first in a series of big hits starring Kimura. .

Behind a huge second half from Kobe Bryant Kobe Bean Bryant (born July 23 1978(1978--)) is an American All-Star shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. , the Lakers posted their second straight comeback victory over the Phoenix Suns 101-95 at the Forum on Wednesday night. And now they're 5-0 since the wedding.

Bryant hit just 2 of 7 shots in the first half and looked generally out of sorts before catching fire with an 11-point third quarter and a nine-point fourth. He finished with a game-high 32 points.

Shaquille O'Neal Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal (pronounced "shak-KEEL") (born March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey), frequently referred to simply as Shaq, is an American professional basketball player, generally regarded as one of the most dominant in the National Basketball Association (NBA).  added 27 points and Rodman grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds. Clifford Robinson Clifford Robinson may refer to:
  • Clifford Ralph Robinson, an American basketball player who entered the NBA in 1989 and, as of 2007, is with the New Jersey Nets

 led the Suns with 20.

The Suns led by three points early in the fourth when Rick Fox brought the Lakers back with eight straight points, including two 3-pointers, to make it 81-78. Bryant followed with six straight to complete a 16-5 run and give the Lakers an 89-81 lead.

Phoenix never got closer than four points after that.

Every marriage has its rough spots. Rambis just hoped for a long honeymoon, but he was realistic.

``Eventually, the first loss is going to happen,'' he said before tipoff.

That moment will have to wait.

Rambis was fortunate not to have suffered his first career loss two nights earlier in Phoenix, when the Lakers had to overcome an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Suns.

Hard on his players, hard on himself, Rambis said he was partially to blame for the near-defeat.

``I wasn't real happy with the way I prepared the team to play in Phoenix,'' he said. ``We didn't get out of the gates really well. We didn't execute the way we're capable of executing. . . . There's a lot of things we didn't do, and I take responsibility for that. . . .

``I was even less happy after I watched the videotape of the game. I let (the players) know - we won, but that doesn't mean that everything's OK Everything's O.K. is an EP by pop-punk band The Queers. Track listing

. We took a little step back.''

And then they stood in place, following one slow start with another. The Lakers lost an early lead, fell to a 34-25 deficit after one quarter and trailed 55-49 at halftime.

Then it was Kobe time. His jumper failing him for the first half, Bryant went to the more direct approach - taking it to the hole three straight times and scoring 11 consecutive points as the Lakers regained the lead for the first time, 68-65.

From there, it was back and forth for the rest of the third quarter, with the Lakers holding a 73-72 lead heading into the fourth.

The first half was much like the first half Monday in Phoenix, with the Lakers again struggling out of the gate while the Suns' shooters went unchecked.

This time, it was Clifford Robinson and George McCloud George McCloud (born May 27, 1967 in Daytona Beach, Florida), is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft.  doing the damage - Robinson with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and McCloud with 10 points, all in the first quarter, on 4-of-5. The Suns shot 51.1 percent in the half, while the Lakers again found their jumpshots ailing.

Bryant and Jones each made just 2 of 7 shots, and the Lakers shot 39.5 percent as a team. Even Dennis Rodman's nine rebounds in 14 minutes and stubborn defense of Tom Gugliotta Thomas James Gugliotta (born December 19, 1969 near Huntington Station, New York) is an American former professional basketball player.

The youngest of seven children, Gugliotta was a skinny 6'6", 198 pound forward as a high school senior. His two older brothers, Frank Jr.
didn't make much of a difference.

O'Neal led the Lakers with 19 points in the first half.
