I'm happy to announce that I will be taking over as the valleynews.com community journalist for the Northeast Valley -- I'm ecstatic ec·stat·ic

 about this opportunity.

I was born in Sun Valley and raised in Pacoima, therefore, covering the Northeast is the fullfillment of an important goal in my life -- giving a voice to the concerns of people in my community.

Growing up, I experienced things that gradually pushed me toward a career in journalism. I saw people struggle to find decent work Decent work is a concept that encapsulates both the quality of employment as well as the imperative of providing high quality jobs globally. Definition
The decent work agenda seeks not just the creation of jobs, but of high quality jobs around the world [1].

among neighbors from different cultures. Too many times I heard stories about men and women whose work was exploited, perhaps because they had no citizenship and could make no claim to their human rights. All this and many more occurrences served as motivation for me to tell these people's stories.

Now, with valleynews.com, I'm not alone. And the opportunity of telling the untold stories is not solely riding on my shoulders.

The people in my community now have a resource with which they can voice their concerns and be heard. But sad stories are not all we are interested in.

There are many things to be proud of and to boast about in the Northeast Valley.

Citizens can tell everyone how the community comes together to celebrate together in the Annual Veteran's Day Parade.

American pride American Pride is a three-masted schooner built in 1941 by Muller Boatworks in Brooklyn, New York. She is one of the few tall ships left sailing in the world. Owned by the American Heritage Marine Institute (AHMI), her homeport is Long Beach, California.  and civic participation is present here, but perhaps not widely recognized.

We can change that.
