Girls: Amy Rosson, Calabasas

What she did: Rosson, a sophomore pitcher, had an extraordinary week by striking out a school-record 26 batters in a 16-inning, 1-0 win over Moorpark, then coming back the following day to strike out 12 in a no-hit performance against Malibu.

The scoop: Rosson has been spectacular, compiling 116 strikeouts in 72-1/3 innings. She has a 0.29 ERA, giving up just 20 hits and only three earned runs.

Comment: ``She just kept getting stronger and stronger as the game went on, she never wavered through all 16 innings.''

Prep football: The second annual High Desert All-Star game is slated for Friday, June 26 at Palmdale High. Littlerock's Jim Bauer will coach the North, and Palmdale's Jeff Williams will coach the South. The North is led by Antelope Valley's Justin Mobley (QB), Joe Manning (WR), Littlerock's Michael Woods (RB) and Jimmy Combs (DL), and Paraclete's Dominic Washington (RB), and Josh Foster (TE/DE). Palmdale's Jeff Williams will coach the South, whose biggest names are Palmdale's Jason Anderson (RB) and Imad Rodriguez (DB), Highland's Camy Smith (QB), Mike De Leon (TE), and Derek Brown (PK), and Quartz Hill's Chris Bishop (DL) and Cliff Watkins (OL).

Prep volleyball: Taft's Joe Nargi has been named to the 19-and-under Junior National team.

College football: Former Montclair Prep star Wilbert Smith is slotted as Division I-AA Murray State's No. 1 tailback. He gained 628 yards (4.8 avg.) with five touchdowns last season after transferring from Illinois.

Youth hockey: The West Valley Wolves won the California Amateur Hockey Association bantam (ages 13-15) title, beating the San Diego Storm 5-0 at Iceoplex. Sean Happy scored two goals, and Justin Steinhardt, T.J. Henderson and Brian Friedman scored one goal apiece. The Wolves finished the seven-month season 38-5-3 with 13 shutouts.

Youth soccer: The Valley United Stars girls' under-14 team qualified for the CYSA-South National State Cup quarterfinals by virtue of its 6-0 win over Hotspurs and 9-0 win over Millenium. The quarterfinals are Sunday.
