In Iowa by the Sea. Really, no joke.

For the second consecutive year, Long Beach is considered the most desired locale in Los Angeles County for new home buyers.

Santa Clarita, fast become the in spot for maturing Generation Xers, ranked second in the survey by The Meyers Group Consulting Services LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

, an Irvine-based real estate consulting firm.

The survey is based on eight factors such as jobs, crime rate, attractions and housing affordability, plus Meyers' own subjective judgment.

Long Beach got great marks in just about every area except crime and things to do, even thought the city has a new aquarium. Its crime ranking, based on statistics from the FBI, was the highest in the survey.

Santa Clarita, on the other hand, got the best crime ranking. But there isn't much to do there, either, except enjoy the safe streets. That is, assuming you can afford to buy a house there.

``When you compare (Long Beach) with the ability to buy a home at a reasonable price, where else would you rather go?'' said John Burns, Meyers' senior managing director.

``If you secede, we'll include you,'' Burns said.
