INGLEWOOD - Alex Solis Alex O. Solis (born March 25, 1964 in Panama City, Panama) is a jockey based in the United States. He currently lives in Glendora, California and rides predominantly in Southern California. He first gained national prominence when he won the 1986 Preakness Stakes with Snow Chief.  raised the left arm of Laffit Pincay high into the air Monday afternoon, in deference to a legend that continues to grow and a man who refuses to act his age.

Pincay claimed his 15th Hollywood Park Hollywood Park may be several places:

riding title with a dramatic victory in the meet's final race. The 54-year-old Panamanian edged Solis, his countryman, 64 victories to 63, when Ride And Shine crossed the wire three lengths ahead of Jacquies Delight in the ninth race.

Pincay, who passed Bill Shoemaker William Lee Shoemaker (August 19, 1931 – October 12, 2003) was an American jockey.

Referred to as "Bill", "Willie," and "The Shoe", William Lee Shoemaker was born in the town of Fabens, Texas. At 2.
19 months ago to become horse racing's all-time leading jockey, has now ridden 9,183 winners. This riding title is the 41st of his career and his first in the track's spring/summer meet since 1991, when he also won the title on the final race.

``It's great, because of my age,'' Pincay said. ``I never thought at this point I'd even be fighting for leading rider, (or) even winning. I'm just very proud and I hope my luck continues and the guys keep riding me on good horses.''

The leading-trainer competition also came down to the last day but lacked the same drama, because Jack Carava needed just one victory to put away Bob Baffert Bob Baffert (born January 13, 1953 in Nogales, Arizona) is an American horse owner and trainer. He graduated from the University of Arizona's Racetrack Management Program with a Bachelor of Science degree.  and claim his first Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  conditioning title, 22 victories to 21.

Pincay and Solis each had two winners earlier on the card, setting up a final-race showdown in which each jockey seemed to have a chance to win. Rise And Shine took the lead early and held off Jacquies Delight. Stuff and Nonsence, with Solis aboard, never challenged in the stretch.

meet, which begins Wednesday, Pincay has 9,182 career victories and seems to be on a reasonable pace to win 10,000 before he retires.

Since breaking Shoemaker's career record of 8,833 victories in December of 1999 at Hollywood Park, Pincay has ridden 347 winners in the past 19 months. He has won three of the past four Southern California riding titles.

``As long as I keep feeling well and riding good horses, why should I retire?'' Pincay said. ``I'm doing something I enjoy and I'm having fun with it. As long as it keeps going that way, I'm going to keep going.

``I think the title, me and Solis, we both deserved it. He rode very well and I think I rode very well and I got a little lucky when David Flores Flores, town, Guatemala

Pincay received a big boost early Monday when Flores, who suffered injuries in the paddock before a race Friday, would not ride his scheduled races Monday.

Flores was scheduled to ride the favored Gibson County Gibson County is the name of several counties in the United States:

in the Answer Do Stakes, and trainer Bob Baffert, trailing by one in the trainer standings at that point, gave the nod to Pincay.

Bettors took Gibson County's odds all the way down to 3-5 and Pincay didn't disappoint, as he held off The Morris Monroe and jockey Corey Nakatani to win by three-quarters of a length.

In the next race, however, Carava and Solis were teamed up with Kippers Kitten, the favorite in a claiming race for fillies and mares. Kippers Kitten put Sulaymondo away in the stretch to tie the jockey standings and clinch the trainer championship for Carava.

Pincay won the seventh aboard 8-1 shot Backhaul and Solis answered in the eighth aboard 1-5 favorite The Seven Seas, who won the Estrapade Stakes for the second consecutive year. The Seven Seas went three-wide into the turn but pulled away to beat Nepenthe ne·pen·the

On-track attendance at Hollywood Park dropped 12.8 percent from last year's spring/summer meet, which officials attributed to the cancellation of popular Friday-night cards because of the California energy crisis.

The total handle was just over $10.1 million, 2.2 percent lower than last years record total.
